Dr. Karen Zhang
Dr. Karen Zhang received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from University of Western Ontario and is a registered clinical psychologist with the Ontario College of Psychologists. Dr. Zhang also holds a position in the Psychosocial Oncology Program at Juravinski Cancer Centre and is an Assistant Professor (P/T) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University. She completed her pre-doctoral Psychology Residency specializing in anxiety and adjustments to medical conditions at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. Her Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute was focused on advancing research and clinical care for patients with cardiovascular conditions.
Dr. Zhang offers assessment and treatment services for adults with a number of presenting concerns including anxiety, mood, work/school stress, relationship difficulties, sleep, coping with medical illness (cancer, pain, women’s health, and chronic diseases), grief and bereavement, self-esteem, and existential challenges. She uses a client-centred approach that is grounded in evidence-based approaches, including cognitive-behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing, supportive-expressive, acceptance commitment and emotion-focused interventions.
